Lab-grown diamonds are physically the same as mined ones — same hardness, same fire, same optical properties. The difference is where they come from. They're grown in controlled environments rather than extracted from the earth, which keeps the environmental footprint lower and, in most cases, the price considerably too. A lot of our lab-grown trilogy rings are IGI-certified, so you're not just taking our word for the quality.

Natural diamonds carry a different kind of appeal — something about knowing the stone has been in the ground for billions of years. Some people find that deeply meaningful. Others don't mind either way, and would rather put the saving towards a higher carat weight or a better metal. Neither position is wrong. We stock both, and we're not here to steer you one way or the other.

Shape Matters More Than People Think

Most engagement ring searches start with carat weight, but shape arguably has more impact on how a ring actually looks on the hand. For trilogy settings in particular, the shape you choose changes the whole character of the ring.

Round brilliant cut is still the most popular — it's predictable in the best sense, reliably bright and symmetrical, works with almost any setting style. Oval is a close second and has grown considerably in the UK market over the last few years; the elongated shape sits beautifully across the finger and tends to look larger than its carat weight suggests. It's easy to focus entirely on the stones and treat the metal as an afterthought. Don't. The metal colour changes how the diamonds appear — white gold and platinum make colourless stones look crisper and cooler; yellow gold adds warmth and a slight vintage feel; rose gold softens everything and photographs particularly well.

On durability: platinum is denser and more hardwearing than gold, which matters if the ring is going to be worn every day for decades. 18K gold is a solid choice. 9K is more affordable and still perfectly fine for most people.
